Prosecutor's Office charges Nika Melia with disrespect to court

The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office indicted Nika Melia, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, for demonstrating disrespect to the court.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the investigation determined that Melia offended the Judge of the Tbilisi City Court.

Melia was indicted under Part 2 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Georgia which pertains to imprisonment to up to 2 years.

The Prosecutor’s Office will apply to the court for the imposition of publishment measures within the set terms.

On May 30, Nika Melia, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, was forcibly removed from the courtroom after an intense confrontation that included spilling water onto Judge Irakli Shvangiradze.
