Prime Minister congratulates citizens on adoption of new constitution
Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili congratulates citizens on the adoption of new Constitution.
“I congratulate Georgian citizens on the adoption of the new edition of the constitution – the main law of the country. This is a big step forward on the path of democratic development of the country.
This is a modern, Western-style, national interest-based document, which must become a guarantee for our country’s freedom, progress, stability and European future. Each person, who participated in the development of this most important document, supported our country’s growth and sustainable development. I would like to thank all the parties participating in the constitutional process, each member of the constitutional commission and ordinary citizens who were involved in the formation of constitutional changes throughout the year.
Once again I would like to thank the Venice Commission, which has worked with us in developing the new edition of the constitution of Georgia. The Venice Commission estimated the country’s constitutional amendments as a step towards improvement of constitutional order in the country, which is based on the principles of democracy, legal state and fundamental rights. According to the new edition of the constitution, the role and opportunities of the opposition are strengthened, which will play a significant role in the democratic development of the country.
I want to congratulate the citizens of our country whose aspirations and values are reflected in the main law of the country and to convince them that all the steps taken to strengthen our democracy and development will be reflected in their better future,” reads the statement released by PM.
