President Zelenskyy urges for more sanctions against Russia to protect Poland, the Baltics, Moldova, Georgia
“In the face of Russian aggression, Ukraine is receiving Western support, but this is not enough. Western sanctions on Russia are also insufficient,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the German newspaper Die Zeit.
In an interview, President Zelenskyy said he had called on the western leaders to impose sanctions on the Kremlin before Russia invaded Ukraine.
“A month ago, when the Russian army was deployed near our borders, I asked the West to impose sanctions so that Russia could not dare to intervene. They did not do that. I told them to express their support for Ukraine to guarantee our security, but they did not do either. Now we are witnessing a brutal intervention,” Zelenskyy stated.
Ukrainian President stressed the need to impose more economic sanctions on Russia.
“The following sanctions should apply to gas, oil, and oil products. The world’s port cities should be closed to Russian ships, freight shipping should be stopped and all Russian banks should be banned from SWIFT with no exceptions. All this must be done to protect Poland, the Baltics, Moldova, Georgia, and other countries from Russian aggression,” Zelenskyy asserted.
