President: We are small but ambitious and talented nation; we have outstanding athletes in every sport

“We are a small but ambitious and talented nation; there is no sport in which we don’t have outstanding athletes,” Georgia’s President Mikheil Kavelashvili stated at the Athlete of the Year awards ceremony.

According to Kavelashvili, the country’s sporting achievements improve year on year, which is extremely important.

“Our athletes brought honour to us in 2025 through their tireless work. Thanks to their efforts, our anthem was played once again, and the entire nation was honoured. Thank you to them.

I also want to thank their family members, coaches, and everyone who helped them achieve success. Our sporting achievements improve year on year, and the statistics our country has achieved in recent years are truly beyond words. This is a testament to the relentless dedication of our athletes.

Moreover, without the special role and purposeful actions of our state in supporting sport, these results would not have been possible. We are also fortunate to have a Prime Minister who is a great enthusiast of sport; that too is invaluable. Our city mayor is an athlete. Over the past few years, we have developed a programme that serves the development of sport in our country. We have seen what joy sport can bring to the population,” Kavelashvili stated.

According to Georgia’s President, sports infrastructure must be accessible in the regions.

“It is planned that multifunctional sports infrastructure will be built in every region. Everyone will have the opportunity to engage in sport. We must be a healthy, fit nation. This is impossible without sport.

Education reform has been organised, and here too, school infrastructure will play a special role, where our students and pupils will be engaged in sport. We want everyone to have the appropriate environment to engage in sport. We want amateur sport to be at a high level. We must systematise this so that the nurturing of our athletes and the achievement of success are not hindered.

This is our vision, and we are determined to realise it. I understand what sport truly is and the joy it can bring. Sport must be present in every aspect of life,” declared Kavelashvili.
