President of NATO Parliamentary Assembly - On October 31, Georgian people once again proved commitment to democracy

I congratulate Georgian people. Despite risks caused by the pandemic, they once again proved their warm-hearted commitment to democracy on October 31- Attila Mesterházy, President of NATO Parliamentary Assembly said.

According to Attila Mesterházy, international election observers, including the delegation of NATO Parliamentary Assembly, evaluated the first round of the 2020 parliamentary elections as competitive.

Mesterházy said in a statement that faults detected during pre-election campaign and Election Day negatively affected the trust of the public.

He called on the Georgian government to transparently and fairly investigate all incidents and underlined that all complaints had to be resolved with use of relevant mechanisms.

“I request all political parties to act with responsibility during next weeks and call on them for resumption of a dialog for resolving the difference through peaceful and democratic manner,” Mesterházy said.

President of NATO Parliamentary Assembly also reiterated support to Georgia’s democracy and Euro-Atlantic integration aspiration.
