It is hard to be president of the country, which fought with different empires during 27 centuries – Georgia’s President Salome Zurabishvili said in an interview with Euronews.

Zurabishvili began her interview with talking about the so-called presidential elections held in Georgia’s one of two occupied regions of Abkhazia. She said that Russixication policy was carried out in Abkhazia.

“We do not recognize these elections, but I am sure, one day, elections will be held which will comprise the whole territory of Georgia and our citizens living in Abkhazia will have the opportunity to participate in the polls. They will determine future of their region being part of Georgia,” Zurabishvili said.

According to President, the aim of the war and occupation was to stop Georgia’s western course but this did not happen and therefore, Georgia is a winner in this struggle.

“We do not have diplomatic relations with Russia because of the war and occupation of our territories. I have said a number of times that we should receive a clear sign that Russia has changed its attitude toward its little neighbor to have any kind of contact. Russia should realize that forcible relations with neighbors are impossible,” Zurabishvili claimed.

President of Georgia said that Georgia was resisting different empires during 27 centuries. “Georgia’s territories were invaded by different empires but Georgia survived and it will continue its path to Europe. We have passed a long way,” Zurabishvili said.
