President Kavelashvili: Georgia values its historic ties with Holy See, looks forward to continued dialogue based on mutual respect
Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili congratulated Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost on the election as Pope Leo XIV.
“I extend warm congratulations to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on his election as the new Supreme Pontiff. Georgia values its historic ties with the Holy See and looks forward to continued dialogue based on mutual respect, peace, and shared values,” he said in his congratulatory message posted on the X Platform.
The Conclave elected Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost as the 267th Bishop of Rome on May 8. The new pope was announced to the waiting crowds by Cardinal Protodeacon Dominique Mamberti. “Peace be with all of you!” were the first words of Pope Leo XIV.
