President Kavelashvili: Centuries of history have taught us that fighting for homeland, faith, and truth admits no alternative
“The preamble to Georgia’s supreme law, our nation’s Constitution, sets out clearly that we must consolidate state independence, establish a democratic social order, economic freedom, and a social state governed by the rule of law. This is a solemn pledge made by our people to themselves and to generations yet unborn; and it is entirely right that our state institutions should be wholly imbued with that sense of responsibility,” declared Georgia’s President, Mikheil Kavelashvili, as he presented the annual presidential address to Parliament.
As the President noted, Georgia’s history has unequivocally demonstrated that the only true path is the struggle for one’s homeland, for faith, and for truth.
“Today, the state stands firm in defence of Georgia’s sovereignty, its national interests, and those fundamental values that define the very essence of our statehood. For centuries, our people have written the history of a small yet dignified and proud nation, sustained by tenacity, resolve and faith. For many hundreds of years, the Georgian people have been forging a culture uniquely and entirely their own, one that, together with our history, bears vivid witness to who we were, who we are, and what we strive to become. Our centuries-long history has shown us that the struggle for homeland, faith and truth admits no alternative, and the proof of this lies in the simple, extraordinary fact that we have not merely survived, but have preserved our national character and identity. This is the path our ancestors walked, and accordingly, every one of us, every citizen of Georgia, is duty-bound to follow it with unwavering fidelity,” declared Mikheil Kavelashvili.
He further affirmed that the long-term prosperity of Georgia relies, above all, on future generations being deeply rooted in a love for their homeland.
“It is we who bear responsibility today for what Georgia’s future shall be, for the country we choose to build for our children. For Georgia’s lasting development, future generations must build their foundation on a love for their homeland, a diligent stewardship of sovereignty and independence, and a profound respect for family values and tradition.
Against the backdrop of global challenges, it is of the greatest importance that the state, within its means, nurtures a rising generation that is physically robust, critically minded, and capable of competing on the international stage, young people for whom the sense of freedom is bound inseparably to the land that is theirs,” the President of Georgia declared.
