President honours National Men's Handball Team with Orders of Honour at PM and Speaker's joint nomination

Based on the joint nomination by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, awarded Orders of Honour and Medals of Honour to members of the national men’s handball team, coaches, staff, and leadership of the National Handball Federation.

The head of government congratulated the national men’s handball team members, coaches, and representatives of the National Handball Federation on receiving state awards and wished them success.

“We can only express our heartfelt gratitude for the success you have achieved. After waiting 30 years to qualify for the European Championship, it was your generation that made this remarkable accomplishment possible. This is just the beginning of a new phase in our development, one that should lead to even greater success for Georgian handball. Georgian handball boasts a rich tradition, and our future successes must be built upon these foundations,” stated Irakli Kobakhidze.

The Prime Minister thanked the handball players, Federation President Vakhtang Meiparian, Head Coach Tite Kalandadze, and each Federation employee for their achievements and discussed the government’s plans for sports.

“One of our key priorities is to develop sports infrastructure. Along with the success of sports, interest in sports is growing, especially among children, and I am thrilled about it, although so far our infrastructure, unfortunately, has not been meeting this increased demand. We have announced the GEL 2-billion project within which a new infrastructure will be created both for sports high achievements and mass sports. The development of handball will be paid attention within the framework of this project,” said the PM.

The Atoneli Presidential Palace hosted the awarding ceremony.
