President congratulates WWII veterans on victory over Fascism

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, accompanied by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, congratulated WWII veterans on May 9, Victory Day.

President Kavelashvili laid a wreath at the memorial of the Meliton Kantaria Monument in the Culture and Recreation (Kikvidze) Park of Veterans.

“May 9 marks the day when humanity triumphantly defeated Fascism and turned a new page in history. Georgians played a significant role in shaping this pivotal moment. I express my deepest respect to our hero veterans and honour the memory of fellow patriots who sacrificed their lives in World War II for freedom and peace,” he said.

Victory Day is a solemn holiday commemorating the Soviet Union’s triumph over Nazi Germany in 1945.
