President awards winners of Georgian National Prize

The President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, presented the winners of the Georgian National Prize and expressed his gratitude for their contributions.

“With the greatest respect, I greet you – our eminent scientists, whose work enriches not only Georgian but also global scientific activity. Science is fundamental to any society, as it creates objective and substantiated knowledge. Your achievements help us understand our past, shape our future, preserve our identity and values, and overcome long-standing challenges facing humanity. Today, scientific research grounded in facts and analysis is more important than ever, as it ensures the well-being and interests of society,” said Kavelashvili.

The President emphasized that the National Prize recognizes the public work of scientists and their contribution to education and national development.

“Your work strengthens our country and can be integrated into both school and university education, providing future generations with quality education and a strong patriotic foundation. The state’s support, including through the National Prize, creates opportunities for our scientists. I congratulate the winners, who serve as examples for our youth, and I thank the National Prize Commission for their exemplary work,” Kavelashvili added.

By decree of the President, the Georgian National Prize was awarded to:

Levan Japaridze – for the cycle of scientific papers: Mechanics of Underground Structures, Calculation of Underground Structures’ Anchorages at Limit States, and Limit Service Conditions of Underground Structures.

Group of authors: Roin Metreveli, Vakhtang Guruli, Lela Mikiashvili, Valeriane Vashakidze, Giorgi Cheishvili, Otar Janelidze, Joni Kvitsiani, and Aleksandre Daushvili – for the two-volume scientific monograph History of the Caucasus.

The competition was announced on December 12, 2025.
