President Aliyev: Georgia and Azerbaijan play vitally important roles in European energy security
“Georgia and Azerbaijan are countries that play a vitally important role in European energy security today,” said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at the joint press briefing following his meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili in Gabala.
“Of course, the friendly relations between us and cooperation in this field are a great contribution to Europe’s energy security. The export of Azerbaijani natural gas to Europe increases annually. As a whole, this year, Azerbaijan will export 24.5 billion cubic meters of gas to world markets, and this volume will increase year-on-year based on a Memorandum of Understanding, which we signed last year with the European Union. By 2027, we will supply Europe with over 20 billion cubic meters of natural gas. It is our target, and I hope we will reach it,” Aliyev stated.
Ilham Aliyev emphasized that Georgia-Azerbaijan cooperation covered many areas and expressed a hope that the visit of the Georgian Prime Minister would give a new impetus to these relations.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili is an official visit to Azerbaijan, where the leaders of the states held a face-to-face meeting, discussing the seminal Black Sea submarine electricity cable project connecting the Caucasus Region and Europe. Irakli Garibashvili and Ilham Aliyev also discoursed the regional and global security environment and challenges.
