Police thwart large-scale narcotics smuggling into Georgia; two foreign nationals detained

Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), in collaboration with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance, have detained two foreign nationals, identified as H.I., born in 2005, and B.M., born in 1989, on suspicion of illegal possession, storage, and smuggling of substantial quantities of narcotics into Georgia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced.

According to the authorities, law enforcement officers at Tbilisi International Airport discovered and seized 1 kilogram and 200 grams of marijuana, concealed in hermetically sealed packages, along with 91 electronic cigarettes containing narcotic-infused liquid during a search of the detainees’ luggage.

The investigation is ongoing under Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which prescribe penalties of up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.
