Police seize large quantities of narcotics; foreign national detained
Officers from the Tbilisi Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have detained a Russian citizen, identified as D.Sh., born in 1980, on charges of facilitating the illegal purchase, storage, and sale of substantial quantities of narcotics, as well as the illegal cultivation and planting of narcotic-producing plants.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, the investigation uncovered that D.Sh., who was detained by law enforcement authorities on suspicion of drug-related offences, had established a specialised greenhouse at his temporary residence, where he unlawfully cultivated and grew narcotic-containing plants in significant quantities.
“During a search, law enforcement officers seized a considerable amount of dried cannabis and live cannabis plants as evidence. They also confiscated materials used for the cultivation and packaging of narcotics. The investigation is ongoing under Articles 260, 260-Quarter, and 265-Prima of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carry penalties of up to 20 years or life imprisonment,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
