Police seize illegal firearms and ammunition across five regions in major crackdown; five arrested
Officers from several regional police departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), specifically Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Imereti, Shida Kartli, and Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, have detained five individuals following separate operations. They have been charged with the illegal acquisition, possession, and carrying of firearms and ammunition.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, operational activities and investigative measures culminated in searches of the suspects’ persons, vehicles, and residential properties. Law enforcement officers seized a substantial array of weaponry as physical evidence, including two automatic assault rifles, five handguns, ammunition magazines, and dozens of live rounds.
The investigation is being conducted under Article 236, Parts 3, 4, and 6 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carries a penalty of up to 12 years’ imprisonment upon conviction.
