Police report 63 arrests and six law enforcement officers' injuries after last night's transparency bill rally

During the briefing at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Deputy Minister Aleksandre Darakhvelidze reported that 63 individuals were detained during the Transparency of Foreign Influence bill rally held near the Parliament building yesterday.

The Deputy Minister explained the said persons are detained for petty hooliganism and disobeying the legal request of the police.

“The employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested 63 people under Articles 166 and 173 of the Code of Administrative Offenses on the facts of petty hooliganism and disobedience to the legal demands of the police at the rally on Rustaveli Avenue”, noted the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs.

Furthermore, Darakhvelidze reported injuries to six law enforcement officers.

“As a result of the violence by rally participants during the rally on Rustaveli Avenue, six police employees received various serious injuries. The ministry launched a probe under Article 353 of the Criminal Code,” said the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, adding the injured law enforcement officers have been transferred to the clinics for appropriate medical assistance.
