Police detain several participants at jailed protester Mate Devidze's support rally
A confrontation erupted between participants of the jailed protester, Mate Devidze, solidarity march and police on Polikarbe Kakabadze Street.
The demonstrators had blocked the driveway on Kakabadze Street when law enforcement officers began to clear the area. During the operation, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained several individuals.
Earlier, one of the march participants, Tbilisi State University lecturer Ketevan Khuskivadze, was arrested on Melikashvili Avenue. According to Goga Memanishvili, head of the Tbilisi Patrol Police, Khuskivadze was detained for verbally insulting a police officer.
The Mate Devidze solidarity march commenced from Tbilisi State University and concluded on Rustaveli Avenue, in front of the Parliament.
Mate Devidze was arrested on November 19, 2024, during a protest rally following the 2024 parliamentary elections. He was sentenced to four years and six months in prison for assaulting a police officer, though he has pleaded not guilty.
