Police detain foreign national at Tbilisi Airport over attempted illegal border crossing using fake documentation

Officers from the Main Division for Border Management and Coordination under the Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have detained a foreign national charged with attempting to cross the state border of Georgia using forged documentation.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs released official details regarding the operation.

According to law enforcement authorities, the individual was apprehended at Tbilisi International Airport while attempting to clear border control using forged documents.

An investigation has been launched under Article 19-344, Part 1, and Article 362, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertain to attempted illegal border crossing and the use of fraudulent documents. If convicted, the suspect faces up to five years’ imprisonment.
