Police detain five individuals on charges of facilitating large-scale narcotics trafficking

Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have apprehended five individuals on drug-related charges.

According to the MIA, the detainees include both Georgian and foreign nationals. They are accused of illegally purchasing, storing, and distributing a significant quantity of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

“During searches of the personal and residential premises of the suspects, as well as during the investigative procedures conducted, law enforcement officers recovered a significant amount of various narcotics and psychotropic substances prepared for sale, including: 22 packs of cocaine, 261 Subutex pills and 36 pill fragments, MDMA, amphetamine, psilocybin mushrooms, Lyrica, and dried cannabis.

Further, the police confiscated materials used for packaging the drugs. The offences carry penalties of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

The investigation is ongoing under Articles 260 and 260-4 of the Criminal Code,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
