Police detain eight suspects in major narcotics bust across Georgia

Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have detained eight individuals on drug trafficking charges.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the detainees include both Georgian and foreign nationals charged with the joint illegal acquisition, storage, and intent to supply particularly large quantities of narcotic and psychotropic substances, as well as the illicit cultivation of plants containing narcotic elements.

“Operative measures and investigative procedures conducted in connection with the criminal case established that the accused placed drugs at pre-selected locations, subsequently sending precise coordinates and location photos to interested buyers.

Following searches of the suspects’ persons and temporary residences, as well as searches across 44 locations identified by the accused, law enforcement officers seized a particularly large quantity of various narcotic and psychotropic substances prepared for distribution as evidence. Seized substances included Methadone, Mephedrone, Alpha-PVP, MDMA, Hashish, Ketamine, and Cannabis.

Investigative actions also yielded packaging materials required for drug distribution and cash presumed to be proceeds from narcotics sales.

The investigation is ongoing under Articles 260, 260-Quarta, and 261 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carry penalties of up to 20 years or life imprisonment,” the official statement released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed.
