PM: We will never ask anyone for permit for enforcement of law. Nika Melia boasted not to pay bail. He was arrested and accepted bail
“We will never ask anyone for a permit for the enforcement of law. Nika Melia had been boasting that he would not pay the bail. He was arrested and accepted the bail,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili briefed reporters on Sunday.
PM claims no one stands above the law.
“The country faces the bulk of issues today, poverty, unemployment, pandemic. I’m not interested in incomprehensible performances and shows staged by ambiguous politicians.
We remember this man saying that he could neither be arrested nor would he pay bail. Of course, the law has been enforced and we will never ask anyone for a permit for the enforcement of law.
All should remember that no one stands above the law, nor below the law, in this country, and at the same time we do not ask permission from anyone, not even from this incomprehensible person, who had been boasting he would not pay the bail – however, as we can see he was detained and he accepted the bail as well,” PM stressed.
The European Union posted bail on Saturday worth GEL 40,000 (USD 11,680) for the release of the United National Movement (UNM) Chairman Nika Melia from pre-trial detention. The move follows the EU-proposed April 19 Agreement between Georgian political parties.
