PM: We promised voters we would neutralise foreign network; opposition weakened after being forced into legal bounds

“The Georgian government is delivering on its campaign pledge to neutralise foreign agents operating within the country,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told reporters during his visit to Paris.

The Head of Government emphasised that foreign-backed network operations in Georgia have been significantly weakened.

“The ongoing developments, including internal factional infighting, are a direct continuation of the processes set in motion following the 2024 parliamentary elections. Opposition figures have brought this state of affairs upon themselves. Or rather, their handlers have pushed these politicians into this predicament.

What we are witnessing is not a genuine political opposition, but a foreign network, and that foreign network in Georgia is today severely weakened. Decisive steps taken by the authorities played a pivotal role in achieving this outcome.

Among the most crucial measures were the enactment of transparency legislation, the passage of the Law on Grants, and the adoption of various other statutory acts, as well as the proper regulation of public assemblies. All of this has forced foreign agents to operate within the framework of the law and, ultimately, within these legal boundaries, the opposition has been weakened. This process must continue.

I will once again stress the importance of our constitutional lawsuit. We have filed a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court to ban specific political parties. A state-level decision must be rendered on this matter, a decision that aligns fully with the supreme national interests of Georgia,” Kobakhidze stated.
