Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Sunday visited the Alaverdi Monastery in eastern Kakheti after being hit by a natural disaster.
The government’s press office reports that scaffolding is currently being erected around the temple’s dome per an agreement with the Alaverdi Diocese and the Georgian National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation. Specialists will then begin the restoration process.
Alaverdi Cathedral is Georgia’s tallest cathedral, designated as a cultural monument.
