PM says pragmatic, result-oriented policy to lead to peaceful de-occupation, unification

“I believe that our pragmatic, result-oriented policy will lead to peaceful de-occupation and unification of our country,” said Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, speaking at the event dedicated to the State Security Service (SSG) Establishment Day.

The PM noted that eight years passed after the SSG was founded. During this period, the service carried out many significant reforms and transformed into an independent, efficient system which protects state interests and cares for the security of people.

The PM thanked the SSG Head Grigol Liluashvili, and his employees for their efforts in identifying and assessing threats, their prevention, and aversion.

According to Irakli Garibashvili, Georgia and the entire region face various challenges, and, in this situation, the SSG has “a key role in keeping peace and stability.”

“Despite many attempts, provocations and destructive activities, our government managed to keep peace and stability. We increased the country’s economy, directly reflecting our people’s welfare. We face multi-dimensional threats and have to cope with hybrid threats, occupation and accompanying risks. This service daily guards the citizens’ security,” he said.

The PM emphasized that “this is the only peaceful period” when the country lost no territories and had neither war nor large-scale conflict.

“Of course, this is the outcome of the government’s correct visions and policy, which has no alternative,” he stated.

The event participants observed a minute of silence to commemorate those who died while performing official duties.

SSG Head Grigol Liluashvili and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili addressed the invited guests. The SSG Head awarded the service employees.
