PM says NGOs serve as political tools in many nations to achieve political interests
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has said in an interview with GPB’s ‘Gadatskvetileba’ [Decision] program that “Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) serve as political tools in many nations to achieve their political interests and goals.”
“Therefore, while dealing with politics, nobody is ever delighted with the transparency of their funds,” PM Kobakhidze asserted.
In the Prime Minister’s words, “There was a clear political interest in not making the NGOs’ activities transparent.”
“Hence, this subjective interest is understandable; however, when you are asked for transparency, you cannot fight it in such a harsh manner; it is simply incomprehensible and unacceptable.
All of this explains why they closed the discussion and forced [President] Salome Zourabichvili to do so, although we provided everyone with the veto mechanism for a healthy debate.
In this case, too, they made Salome Zourabichvili close the discussion and veto the [Transparency] law,” Kobakhidze said.
