PM: OSCE Moscow Mechanism report ignores five coup attempts in Georgia

“The author of the report published under the OSCE Moscow Mechanism calls for the repeal or, at least, a substantial revision of the legislation on transparency. However, she completely ignored the five coup attempts in Georgia over the past four years, in which so-called non-governmental organizations funded from abroad were actively involved,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during a briefing at the government administration.

According to the Prime Minister, under universal legal principles, any external interference in the internal political affairs of a sovereign country constitutes a gross violation of state sovereignty and is therefore unacceptable. He noted that this principle has been systematically and openly violated in Georgia in recent years.

“The author of the report demands repeal or substantial revision of the legislation on transparency, yet she completely ignored the five coup attempts in Georgia over the past four years, during which foreign-funded non-governmental organizations played an active role. According to universal legal principles, any external interference in a country’s internal affairs is a gross violation of state sovereignty and is unacceptable. This principle has been systematically and blatantly violated in Georgia in recent years. The report should have recognized that the legitimate purpose of the transparency legislation adopted by the Georgian Parliament is to protect Georgia’s sovereignty and democratic system from such external interference in the future. Yet, the author refrained from acknowledging this obvious conclusion. No valuable critical remarks were presented against the transparency legislation,” Kobakhidze said.
