PM: Occupation remains primary challenge in Georgia

“Unfortunately, the occupation remains the most serious challenge in Georgia,” Georgian Prime Minister nominee Giorgi Gakharia said during a parliamentary meeting with the ruling Georgian Dream party on Wednesday.

According to candidate PM, the country’s development will be restrained until this problem remains unresolved.

“Therefore, the restoration of territorial integrity, through peaceful and pragmatic policies, is the central task, and our Euro-Atlantic aspirations and strategic partners’ involvement is paramount in this process.

Given the global crisis, it has been complicated to advance the occupation problem at a high international level in recent years. Our diplomacy succeeded; the occupation of Georgia is very high at the international level. Now, we have to take concrete steps to remove this obstacle on the path of further development and Euro-Atlantic integration,” the Prime Minister said.

Further deepening cooperation with the strategic partners, primarily with the United States, in the security, economy, and democratization fields, is the key, added Gakharia.
