PM: Moscow Mechanism report author forgot to mention OSCE/ODIHR called 2024 elections competitive, GD elected government

“The author of the Moscow Mechanism report somehow forgot to mention that, despite the specific shortcomings identified, the OSCE/ODIHR mission called the 2024 parliamentary elections competitive and Georgian Dream the elected government, which is why the local radical opposition repeatedly harshly attacked the OSCE and ODIHR,”  Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia, stated.

Speaking at a briefing at the government administration, Kobakhidze stated that the author failed to mention that the opposition has refused to take up parliamentary mandates for the second time, which he described as an attempt to undermine Georgia’s constitutional order and democratic system.

He added that the report contains no negative assessment of what he described as the opposition’s anti-state and anti-democratic actions.

“As for the specific issues discussed in the report, the first concerns elections. In reviewing the elections in Georgia, the author of the report somehow failed to mention that, despite the shortcomings identified, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) mission described the 2024 parliamentary elections as competitive and recognized Georgian Dream as the elected government. For this very reason, the local radical opposition has repeatedly harshly criticized the OSCE and ODIHR.

In addition, the author of the report did not mention that the radical opposition has refused to take up parliamentary mandates for the second time in a row, thereby attempting to undermine the constitutional order and democratic system of Georgia. The report contains no negative assessment of these anti-state and anti-democratic actions by the opposition.

The author also failed to note that the most recent parliamentary and municipal elections were conducted under new legislation agreed upon with the opposition after months of work in joint working groups. This legislation was designed to eliminate the possibility of election fraud — a fact that the radical opposition itself openly acknowledged before losing the 2024 parliamentary elections.

Overall, even the author of the Moscow Mechanism report was unable to question the democratic nature of the 2024 and 2025 elections,” Kobakhidze stated.
