PM: Lack of condemnation from international actors, including U.S. and EU, may be seen as implicit support for attempted overthrow

“Failing to disassociate from the attempted overthrow and violence, and not condemning them, can be easily interpreted as an indirect yet clear expression of support for such actions,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during a briefing at the government administration.

The Prime Minister emphasised that, to date, no organisation or state, including the United States, the European Union, or individual EU countries, has issued a statement condemning or disassociating itself from the attempted overthrow of Georgia’s democratically elected government.

“It has been four days since the violent storming of the Georgian Presidential Palace, an act aimed at toppling the government chosen by the Georgian people. Yet, during this period, no international organisation or state that claims to assess Georgia’s internal political situation, criticise the country, or give instructions, including the United States, the EU, and certain EU nations, has made any statement condemning or distancing itself from the attempt to overthrow the government and the violent assault on the Presidential Palace.

On the contrary, the European Union, ODIHR, and other entities have even issued statements that seem to contradict this stance. Naturally, the failure to condemn or disassociate from these actions can be interpreted as an indirect but clear sign of support for the overthrow and violence,” he concluded.
