“Strengthening peace and stability across the South Caucasus is of paramount importance amid ongoing regional geopolitical shifts,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze declared today during the 11th session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan.

Opening the commission, Kobakhidze reaffirmed Georgia’s long-standing commitment to regional dialogue and peaceful coexistence. The Prime Minister highlighted the centuries-old bond between the two nations.

“I am delighted to host the delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Georgia and, as co-chair, open the 11th meeting of our Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

Centuries of friendship and good-neighbourly relations link Georgia and Azerbaijan. Our peoples have lived side by side for generations, rooted in mutual respect for traditions and national interests. This mutual respect remains the bedrock of our strategic partnership, reinforced through regular political dialogue at the highest level. In this context, I would like to highlight the recent visit of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, to Georgia, which underscored our shared determination to deepen bilateral ties.

Against the backdrop of current geopolitical shifts, consolidating peace and stability among South Caucasus nations is crucial. Georgia has consistently championed peaceful coexistence and dialogue across the region. As such, we welcome the ongoing peace process initiated between our neighbouring states and express our firm hope that it will serve as the foundation for long-term regional peace and economic development,” Kobakhidze stated.
