PM Kobakhidze: Radicals failed to block Rustaveli Avenue for first time in a year; new law takes effect
“For the first time in a year, radicals have been unable to block a street, indicating that the new law has come into force,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.
According to the Prime Minister, radicalism must be eliminated in Georgia, because a mere fifty radicals cannot inflict violence on a population of 3.7 million.
“For the first time in a year, radicals have failed to block the street. This signifies that the new legislation is now in effect. Of course, we must not become complacent; we need to continue working diligently.
Ultimately, radicalism must be eliminated from our country. Fifty radicals can’t commit violence against 3.7 million citizens. Legislation has been enacted to address this, and we are already seeing that the new law is beginning to function effectively,” the Prime Minister stated.
The Head of Government went on to say that the failure to gather even 300 people on Rustaveli Avenue, under conditions of full mobilisation, clearly indicates that it is not a genuine protest. According to the Prime Minister, this signifies that what is happening is a radical rally financed from abroad.
“Every day, around 50 people block the street, so it is only logical that approximately 20-25 individuals are detained daily. I want to thank the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This is not a protest. When even 300 people cannot be mobilised on Rustaveli Avenue, despite full mobilisation efforts, it signifies that this is not a protest. It is a radical rally funded from abroad. A mere 300 Georgian citizens have come out, and of course, this cannot be called a protest. We cannot be forced to label something as a protest when it is not genuinely one,” the Prime Minister stated.
According to the Prime Minister, the public is well aware of this reality, which is reflected in the consistent support the ruling party has received, with over 1,100,000 votes cast in consecutive elections, reaffirming their backing and rejection of radicalism and foreign interference.
“The radical opposition is a group of foreign agents working in coordination with their foreign benefactors. This constitutes a betrayal of their own country and people. Society is well aware of this, which is why over 1,100,000 citizens have consistently voted in favour of the ruling party for two consecutive years, reaffirming their rejection of radicalism and foreign interference,” the Prime Minister stated.
