PM Kobakhidze: Pragmatic int'l relations are crucial for country in complex region; diplomats play decisive role
“The crucial role of our diplomatic missions in the process of consolidating support for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be noted,” Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated during his address at the Conference of Ambassadors 2025.
According to him, against the backdrop of the occupation of 20% of the country’s territory, the policy of non-recognition remains an unchanged priority, and the country’s successful work in this direction is the diplomats’ achievement.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity once again to address you at the annual Conference of Ambassadors, which has established itself as a very interesting platform for dialogue. Today’s conference is an excellent opportunity to summarise the year that has passed, which was filled with many difficulties; however, we managed to overcome all challenges appropriately, and your contribution and role in this are exceptional.
I wish to express my sincere gratitude to each of you, especially the ambassadors, for your efforts.
Fundamental changes are taking place in the global international system; the international agenda is changing. In the context of such changes, for a country like Georgia situated in a complex region, international relations founded on rational and pragmatic policies are of paramount importance. The role of our diplomats is crucial in this regard.
Here, I wish to emphasise the extremely important role of our diplomatic missions in the process of consolidating support for our sovereignty and territorial integrity. Against the backdrop of the occupation of 20% of the country’s territory, the policy of non-recognition remains our unchanged priority. Our successful work in this direction is, of course, once again your achievement, the achievement of diplomats,” the Prime Minister stated.
