PM Kobakhidze points out double standard and differing interests at play towards Georgia, unlike Moldova, which explains why Georgia is targeted
“Overall, Europe today, including Great Britain, continues to trade with the Russian Federation, and through this trade, they are generously funding the Russian state budget, which is then used to sustain the war in Ukraine,” stated Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia and Chairman of the Political Council of Georgian Dream, during a briefing at the party’s central office.
He pointed out that, when it comes to calls for adopting similar sanctions, there exists a different attitude and interest towards Georgia, which results in a clear double standard.
“When it comes to Georgia, we observe a different stance—calls for sanctions, and so forth. This is a blatant double standard. Naturally, this speaks volumes. It is clear that there are divergent interests concerning Georgia, and because of these differing interests, Georgia is being targeted. For instance, Moldova has not imposed sanctions on Russia, and there has not been a single critical statement, not even from a single MEP, regarding Moldova. In contrast, we have even seen a resolution from the European Parliament demanding sanctions against Georgia. Many other statements reflect this double standard, revealing a different set of interests towards Georgia—interests that are not present, for example, in Moldova. This is precisely why Georgia is under attack. Great Britain also exhibits such a double standard,” Kobakhidze concluded.
