PM Kobakhidze labels OSCE/ODIHR statement as absurd: how can government overthrow attempt be equated with disputed details?

“The OSCE/ODIHR statement is utterly absurd. On one side, it touched upon an attempt to overthrow the government, while on the other, it offers some specific details. How can these two issues be equated?” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze remarked on the OSCE/ODIHR statement on the October 4 developments during a briefing at the government administration.

The Prime Minister criticised the European bureaucratic narrative, describing it as a continuation of Goebbels-like propaganda.

“This is the height of absurdity. On one side, it touched upon an attempt to overthrow the government, while on the other, it offers some specific details. How can you, first of all, put these two matters on equal footing? And secondly, the blatant nonsense in this statement is glaringly obvious. Of course, there was severe violence. Let us remind you that 15 police officers were hospitalized, two of whom narrowly escaped death, thanks be to God.

Against this backdrop, the ODIHR representatives are discussing certain issues, which only underscores how difficult the situation has become within the entire European bureaucracy. The injustice we witness is directly connected to this. Europe, as a concept, is not a panacea. Historically, Europe has also been associated with figures like Goebbels, known for propaganda. These shameful lies and misleading statements from the European bureaucracy are a clear continuation of Goebbelsian tactics. Goebbels was also a part of Europe; he himself worked in the most powerful state in Europe during the 1940s, and such propaganda cannot simply re-emerge in Europe eighty years later,” Kobakhidze stated.

For context, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) recently issued a statement regarding Georgia. In it, ODIHR expressed concern about the violent protests following the elections and called on the authorities to respect the rights to peaceful assembly and expression.
