PM Kobakhidze: Government decides to award figure skaters Luka Berulava and Anastasia Metelkina with 500,000 GEL each
“The success story of Georgian sport continues, and my heartfelt thanks go to the key architects of this victory, Luka Berulava and Anastasia Metelkina,” stated the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, during an interpellation hearing in Parliament.
According to the Prime Minister, the government has made a decision: each athlete will receive 500,000 GEL for their achievement.
“I would like to congratulate our athletes on yet another momentous success. For the first time in history, our country has secured medals at the Winter Olympics, which is a remarkable achievement. The success story of Georgian sport endures, and special thanks are due to the main architects of this victory, Luka Berulava and Anastasia Metelkina, as well as their coaches. This is a historic triumph. I am confident that this will pave the way for further significant successes in this sport and in winter sports more broadly in the future.
We had previously established a bonus scheme based on medal placements; each medal, and consequently each team, was set to receive a bonus of 250,000 GEL. However, in light of this historic victory, we have decided that each athlete in the pair will now receive 500,000 GEL, recognising the exceptional achievement they have brought to our country,” the Prime Minister concluded.
