PM Kobakhidze: Georgia has strategic location; highway plays a crucial role in restoring our historical function
“Georgia occupies a unique and strategic position. Historically, we have been a vital link between Europe and Asia, serving an important transit function. One of our primary objectives is to restore this traditional function of our country as fully as possible. The construction of the highway plays a crucial role in achieving this,” stated the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, during the inauguration of a new eight-kilometre section of the Samtredia-Grigoleti highway.
As the head of government highlighted, today marks the opening of this new eight-kilometre stretch of the Samtredia-Grigoleti highway.
“I would like to extend my congratulations to everyone on the Barbaroba holiday. It is especially meaningful that, on this day of celebration, we are unveiling a vital segment of the highway. This section, specifically the Lanchkhuti-Lesa stretch, is four lanes wide and built to the highest modern standards. It includes three new bridges and two transport nodes. This was a challenging project, and I commend the Ministry for executing it with the utmost quality and within the designated timeframe.
This development is significant in many respects. It will ease traffic in Lanchkhuti and its surrounding villages, reducing noise, enhancing comfort, and increasing safety for local residents.
For travellers, it means shorter journey times and greater convenience. This project benefits our citizens and our visitors alike.
Earlier this year, we also completed the most critical part of the Rikoti bypass. The current eight-kilometre section is part of the 12-kilometre stretch from Samtredia to Grigoleti. Work continues actively, and we expect the entire section to be finished soon.
Georgia’s unique and strategic location has historically made us a pivotal connector between Europe and Asia, with a vital transit role. One of our key goals now is to restore and strengthen this traditional function of our nation as much as possible. The construction of this highway holds a special significance in realising that vision,” Irakli Kobakhidze emphasised.
