PM Kobakhidze: European bureaucrats plan indirect political financing in Georgia, legislative package to respond
“Specific European bureaucrats are directly stating that they intend to find mechanisms to circumvent existing legislation and indirectly finance political activities in Georgia,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.
According to the Prime Minister, the package of draft laws being adopted by the Parliament of Georgia is aimed at preventing such actions.
“This is a very important initiative, and work in this direction must continue. As for the non-recognition of the constitutional system, this is directly related to our national interests and the protection of the Constitution. There are five states that do not recognize the jurisdiction of our government over 20 percent of Georgia’s territories, and there are forces within the country — externally incited and coordinated — that do not recognize the jurisdiction of the Georgian government over not 20 percent, but 100 percent of the country’s territory.
“Of course, this is a national challenge that must be addressed through legislation, and it is very important that Parliament plans to adopt the relevant law,” Kobakhidze said.
