PM Kobakhidze: European bureaucracy resentful toward Georgian people's support for GD; we hope for change

“Regrettably, there has been no progress in Georgia-EU relations, primarily because the attitude of European bureaucracy towards the Georgian people and their elected government remains unchanged,” stated Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, on the programme “Actual Topic with Maka Tsintadze” on GPB First Channel.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that the said attitudes would change.

“Regrettably, there has been no progress in Georgia-EU relations, primarily because the attitude of European bureaucracy towards the Georgian people and their elected government remains unchanged. It is the principal reason for the situation that has formed today.

The main issue is that European bureaucracy does not recognise Georgian democracy or the democratic choice of the Georgian people. Everything revolved around the 2024 elections, when the EU Ambassador openly expressed his electoral stance, urging voters to go to the polls and support the opposition against the Georgian Dream government.

European bureaucracy, together with the radical opposition, lost the elections and to this day cannot come to terms with it. In reality, everyone recognises the government; proof of this is the official events in which the Georgian government regularly participates. It is not a matter of recognition; rather, they continue to express resentment towards the Georgian people for once again supporting the Georgian Dream government and the course the country has taken. It is a peaceful, pragmatic course.

In circumstances where the attitude of European bureaucracy towards Georgia remains unchanged, we naturally see no progress whatsoever. However, we remain hopeful that this attitude will change,” stated the Prime Minister.
