PM Kobakhidze: 1,131 illegal migrants expelled in 11 months, migration issue could be solved in 3-4 years

“Based on data from the first 11 months of this year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has expelled 1,131 illegal migrants from Georgia, a figure that matches the total for the previous seven years,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during a government session.

According to the Prime Minister, the department’s efficiency has significantly improved, though further strengthening of the Migration Department within the Ministry of Internal Affairs remains necessary.

“Over recent months, the efficiency of the Ministry has increased markedly, particularly in areas such as combating organised crime, corruption, and drug-related offences. The same applies to efforts against illegal migration, where we have achieved impressive results.

For the first 11 months of this year alone, the Ministry has expelled 1,131 illegal migrants, a number equivalent to the total over the past seven years.

While efficiency has improved significantly, the Migration Department still requires further strengthening, and the Minister and the Ministry are actively working on this. All of these efforts will shape future initiatives to address illegal migration.

According to the plan presented by the Ministry, at least 3,500 illegal immigrants are expected to be expelled next year, a minimum target. Overall, this plan suggests that the problem of illegal migration could be completely solved within three to four years.

This is a significant step forward, not only from a security standpoint but also in terms of national stability. I thank the Minister of Internal Affairs and the entire Ministry for their achievements thus far, and for their upcoming plans,” the Prime Minister concluded.
