PM Irakli Kobakhidze: Political funding in Georgia must not come from abroad; new legislation aims to address this
“Politics in Georgia should not be financed from outside the country, and this is precisely the principle underpinning the package of bills recently introduced in Parliament,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, in response to a question regarding proposed amendments to the Law of Georgia on Grants.
As the Head of Government emphasised, it was both important and necessary to clarify many issues.
“Certain individuals are attempting to exploit loopholes within the existing legislation to finance political processes in Georgia. Of course, politics in Georgia should not be funded from abroad, and this is exactly the aim of the package of bills that has been initiated in Parliament and is currently being adopted,” added Irakli Kobakhidze.
