PM Irakli Kobakhidze meets newly appointed Ambassador to Azerbaijan Giorgi Zakarashvili

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met with Giorgi Zakarashvili, Georgia’s newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan.

According to a press release issued by the Government Administration, Kobakhidze congratulated the diplomat on his appointment and wished him success in his new role.

The meeting highlighted the envoy’s vital role in further deepening Georgia and Azerbaijan’s strategic partnership.

Giorgi Zakarashvili will officially assume his duties as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan on 1 October.

Zakarashvili brings extensive diplomatic experience, having served at the central apparatus of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and various diplomatic missions abroad.

Since 2021, he has served as Georgia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine and Permanent Representative to GUAM. From 2016 to 2019, he served as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at the Georgian Interests Section of the Embassy of Switzerland in the Russian Federation. Before that, he held the post of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at the Embassy of Georgia in Ukraine and the Permanent Representation to GUAM between 2012 and 2016. He holds the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
