PM holds high-level talks with IMO Secretary-General

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze has met with Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

The head of government thanked the Secretary-General for participating in the Georgia International Maritime Forum (GIMF 2026) and highlighted the fruitful, ongoing cooperation with the IMO. Kobakhidze underscored the crucial role played by the organisation’s support in modernising and developing Georgia’s maritime sector.

According to the Government Administration, both sides expressed a shared commitment to deepening cooperation further, with a particular focus on enhancing maritime safety, raising environmental standards, and expanding digital connectivity.

Discussions also focused on rising cargo turnover and the major infrastructure projects currently spearheaded by the Georgian government to strengthen the nation’s regional connectivity hub. In this context, emphasis was placed on the ongoing modernisation of railways and airports, and the strategic importance of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, which is scheduled to receive its first vessels by 2029.
