PM: Experts included Black Sea submarine cable in EU’s list of projects of mutual interest; such links cannot be established without Georgia

“When the EU document was prepared from an expert perspective, experts included the Black Sea submarine cable on the list of projects of mutual interest. Wherever an expert component is involved, everyone naturally recognises that such interconnections cannot be established or strengthened without Georgia,” stated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in response to a journalist’s question.

According to him, it is of fundamental importance to further reinforce the strategic ties, including connectivity, between Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, and the government is sparing no effort to achieve this.

“When the EU document was prepared from an expert standpoint, including regarding electricity transit and submarine cable projects, experts included the Black Sea submarine cable, which serves both as an electricity cable and a digital cable, on the list of projects of mutual interest. Wherever an expert component is involved, everyone naturally recognises that such interconnections cannot be established or strengthened without Georgia. We must hope that pragmatic considerations will prevail.

What President Aliyev states is, of course, absolutely correct. It is of fundamental importance to further reinforce the strategic ties between Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, particularly regarding connectivity, and we are doing and will continue to do everything to ensure this. We enjoy excellent dynamics with Azerbaijan as well as Turkey, and work on this front will actively continue,” stated Kobakhidze.
