PM deems granting EU candidate status to Ukraine, Moldova, as political decision

The decision to grant Ukraine and Moldova EU candidate status was made on political grounds. Georgia is ten times ahead of these countries, stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, who spoke in the interpellation procedure before the parliament.

Georgia, according to Garibashvili, is a leader among Eastern Partnership countries. The European partners granted Ukraine the status “in advance as an incentive” for its involvement in the war with Russia. All three nations must follow the same recommendations.

“Georgia’s European perspective is a historic decision that unambiguously confirms Georgia’s future membership in the EU,” he stated.

PM noted this process is a culmination of years-long productive work by the government, parliament, and the entire public sector.
