Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze congratulated Georgian people on Virgin Mary Day from Sioni Cathedral in Tbilisi.
“Georgia is the country allotted to Virgin Mary. For centuries, Georgians have had special love and faith of Virgin Mary. Starting May of 2019, we officially celebrate this great orthodox event. When making the decision, we felt full support of the Georgian church and public,” Bakhtadze said.
Georgia celebrates Virgin Mary’s Day on August 28. The day, known as the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, commemorates the assumption of the Blessed Virgin into heaven.
All acting churches throughout Georgia hold special ceremonies and religious services in retaliation to this day. Virgin Mary’s Day is a public holiday in Georgia.
