PM accuses oligarchic forces of causing sanctions on Georgian individuals
“Responsibility for the sanctions and visa restrictions lies with oligarchic forces that exert influence over official institutions in the United States,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
“We can speculate about the factors that may have influenced these statements, but it is important to note that the announcement was formally issued by the U.S. State Department, which is regrettable, as it compels us to respond to their assertions.
We assert that the blame rests with the oligarchic forces that manipulate U.S. institutions, not the U.S. Department of State itself. Thus, we do not place blame on the United States but rather on these oligarchic forces, which ultimately undermine justice and tarnish the United States’ reputation in certain contexts,” he continued.
The U.S. State Department has imposed visa restrictions on more than 60 Georgian individuals and their family members for being “responsible for, or complicit in, undermining democracy in Georgia.”
