PM: About 150 NGOs registered under Transparency Law; others likely have something to hide
“The Law on Transparency does not limit or stigmatize any organization. Over 100 organizations registered precisely because this law imposes no obstacles on them,” said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during a briefing.
According to the PM, the law requires organizations to disclose their finances, suggesting that those refusing to register likely have something to conceal.
“The only demand is for transparency. If they have nothing to hide, why do they refuse to register? It’s a simple question. As for stigmatization, that is outright false. When issues arise with certain organizations—such as those that falsified PVT results or engaged in revolutionary activities—they are clearly named.
The law states that if you receive foreign funding, that money carries influence, and the organization must navigate that influence within the country. This should not be a concern for any organization. Thus, it is logical that approximately 150 NGOs have registered under the Transparency Law. This reflects their civic responsibility; they are not afraid to make their finances public. Clearly, others have much to hide, which is why they refuse to register,” he concluded.
