Péter Szijjártó: Hungary and Georgia withstand external pressure thanks to strong leadership

Hungary and Georgia are countries that have refused to be drawn into war and do not allow external forces to interfere in their internal political affairs, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said at a press conference with his Georgian counterpart, Maka Botchorishvili.

According to Szijjártó, both countries have been able to withstand external pressure thanks to strong leadership.

“Thank you for visiting Budapest. We are always happy to host our Georgian friends. This is a particularly important time, as a new world order is emerging that will allow states to protect their sovereignty and independence — especially those that prioritize sovereignty and do not allow interference in their internal affairs. Hungary and Georgia are clear examples of this.

These are countries that did not allow themselves to be drawn into war and do not permit outside forces to interfere in their internal political life. They do not act recklessly in the face of external pressures. This struggle is ongoing.

We will continue to defend our sovereignty and independence every day. Brussels is moving in a different direction, and as long as Ursula von der Leyen is President of the European Commission, we will have to resist opposition and provocations. We must do everything possible to prevent interference in the war in Ukraine.

Georgia and Hungary have endured external pressure because they have very strong leaders. Neither country could be broken by daily pressures. We will not allow others to defeat us. We are proud that Hungary and Georgia are pioneers of a global patriotic movement. These two countries clearly demonstrate what success a patriotic revolution can bring,” said Szijjártó.

According to Szijjártó, Brussels is interfering in the elections.

“Georgia is an independent, sovereign state with an elected government, and Hungary will always stand by Georgia. We have opposed all sanctions against Georgia and its government officials. We have consistently rejected the imposition of visa restrictions and have never agreed that Georgia should compromise its sovereignty in order to join the European Union,” said Szijjártó.
