Patriarch: EC's decision to be Georgian gov't, people efforts' result
The European Commission’s decision is the outcome of a joint effort by the Georgian people and government, said Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude, Ilia II.
Patriarch hopes Georgia will contribute to the progress of the European family.
“Yesterday, the European Commission positively assessed the steps taken by the Georgian government and recommended the European Council to grant candidate status to our country.
For years, the EU Commissioners and other officials have stressed Georgia’s unique culture, highlighting Georgia’s Christian traditions, spiritual values, and cultural development as significant for the European Union.
We have supported EU integration, and we hope that our country will contribute to the progress of the big European family worthily. This decision is the outcome of a joint effort by the Georgian people and the government. Congratulations to all on this success,” he said.
On November 8, the European Commission recommended the European Council to grant candidate status to Georgia.
