Parliamentary majority want to see many opposition parties at parliament
“We wish for as many opposition parties as possible to enter parliament. I do not mean the radical wing of the opposition, the United National Movement and European Georgia parties,” leader of the parliamentary majority, Irakli Kobakhidze declared on Wednesday.
“It would be better if they do not enter the parliament, but we would like to see others. We will do our best to get these political parties into the parliament,” Kobakhidze said.
The leader of the GD parliamentary majority added the ruling party expects opposition parties to join the parliament. Asked whether there is communication with the boycotting opposition parties, Kobakhidze noted that the Georgian Dream has more room for maneuver.
“Maybe, we have, maybe we do not. Nevertheless, we are confident that not two or three but more parties would be represented in the Georgian parliament. A large room for maneuver that the Georgian Dream has allows us to say this. The radical opposition has no room for maneuver. They put themselves in a situation where they have to choose between bad and worse. It is bad for them to enter, but boycotting is worse,” Irakli Kobakhidze told reporters.
The leader of the parliamentary majority, at the same time, said he had no information about the decision of one member of the Alliance of Patriots to enter the parliament.
Earlier today, Avtandil Enukidze, a number four on the parliamentary list of the opposition party Alliance of Patriots, declared he plans to take up his mandate and enter the parliament. Most opposition MPs have appealed to the parliament to renounce their seats.
